Jirang - The largest Tibetan Monastery in Eastern India in Gajapati District of Odisha considered the largest Monastery in south Asia. It is also known as “PADMA SAMBHAV MAHAVIHAR”. The foundation stone for this Mahavihar was laid in 2003. It has been built as per the traditional Buddhist architecture of “Atanpuri Style of Nalanda”. In the large assembly hall of the Monastery there is a 23-feet high idol of Lord Buddha, on its right side there is an idol of the thousand armed, thousand eyed Avalokiteswar. This monastery is around 70 feet. Its interiors are richly decorated with traditional religious paintings of Tibetan culture and deities. The Monastery was inaugurate by the Dalai Lama. The nearest railway station is Berhampur, Odisha and it is 120 km away.
